Welcome to Cottonwood Creek Cabins!
Our names are Steve and Gretchen Bradbury.
We live in Sutherland Springs, Texas, on 11 thickly wooded acres of Oaks and Hickories in a log home that we built with our own hands, with freshly cut East Texas Long-leaf Pines. Our 9 and 14-year old daughters ran the telehandlers, saws, nailguns, and fully participated every step of the way. Pictures of the entire process can be seen on our blog at www.OurCottonwoodCreek.com, or click "blog" in the menu above. It's currently read in over 120 countries. We affectionately named our 11 Texas acres "Cottonwood Creek" because of the single Cottonwood tree that stands on the edge of a stream bed running through our property. On this same 11-acres is our Scandinavian Cottage, described below, and we own and rent a 1940's log cabin in Ruidoso, New Mexico, called Sprucewood Cabin, also described below. If you'd like to learn more about either the Scandinavian Cottage or Sprucewood Cabin, you can click on their direct links in our menu on top. Welcome!
Scandinavian Cottage
On Cottonwood Creek's Texas acreage we built an Old World-style, 100% Scandinavian-inspired, timber-frame Bed & Breakfast called Scandinavian Cottage. We used 150-year old mortise & tenon barn beams, and modeled the architecture after 1700's- pre-1900 Swedish and Norwegian homes as well as the oldest-known Norwegian Viking ship and "Stave" churches...from ~1000 A.D.
We built our Scandinavian Cottage to honor Gretchen's 100% Swedish and Norwegian heritage and family who have lived in Norway and Sweden for hundreds of years, and are still there. The Scandinavian Cottage is available for rent on Airbnb; for more information and pictures of the Scandinavian Cottage, click on the link in the upper menu. [*It is currently still under construction...expected to be available for rent by October/November 2021.]
Sprucewood Cabin
Sprucewood Cabin was built in the 1940's. It's a split-log cabin in Ruidoso, New Mexico, also available on Airbnb. For interior and exterior pictures and more information about the cabin's history, and the area of Ruidoso, click on "Sprucewood Cabin" link in the menu above.
